3 lbs short ribs, bone-in
1 T five-spice powder
1 t salt
1 t black pepper, freshly ground
2 C beef broth
1 C dark ale/stout
1/2 C dried sour cherries
1 small onion, finely julienned
2 T flour
2 T water
Preheat oven to 325F.
Rub the ribs with five-spice powder, salt and pepper.
Brown in olive oil on all sides. Remove meat.
Deglaze pot with the ale, then add ribs, onions, broth and cherries.
Bring to simmer. Cover and braise in the oven until tender (3 hours).
Take the meat out, mix flour with water and add to pot to thicken, on medium.
Add the meat back into the pot.
