Meatball Pizza

2 large garlic cloves
2 T olive oil
1 can stewed tomatoes 28 oz
2 T fresh basil, finely chopped
1/4 t red pepper flakes
2 T brown sugar
salt and pepper, freshly ground

1 lbs ground beef or pork
1 egg
1 clove garlic
1/2 C Parmigiano-Reggiano, coarsely shredded
1/2 C Breadcrumbs
1/3 C milk
1/2 C fresh parsley, finely chopped
salt and pepper, freshly ground

2 lb Pizza Dough
1 C mozzarella or fontina, shredded


Sautee garlic in olive oil for a few seconds, don’t let it brown.
Process tomatoes in the food processor until almost smooth.
Add to pot. Bring to boil and simmer on medium heat with closed lid for 20 min.
Add basil, salt and pepper.

Mix all ingredients for meatballs, shape into small balls, and drop into the hot tomato-sauce.
Cover and simmer for 30 min before stirring.
Cook for 20 min more.

spread out the dough over the baking sheet, brushed with olive oil.
Spread the sauce then top with meatballs and mozzarella or fontina cheese.

Bake 15-18 min @450F
Broil 3.5 min @500F
Let sit for 5-10 min before cutting.
