Beef and Mushrooms in Guinness Stew

2 lbs steak, finely cubed
440 ml Guinness, at room temperature
2 T brown sugar
1 large onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
4 T flour, plus more if needed
1 lb mushrooms
salt and pepper, freshly ground


Brown steak in flour, add sugar and Guinness.
Stew for 1.5 hours.
Turn up heat to medium-high, add onions and garlic.
In about 10 min turn heat to high and add mushrooms.
Cook until mushrooms are just about done.
Add flour to desired thickness.
Add salt and pepper.

Match made in Heaven:

A glass of red.
